I thought this small town thriller would be right up my street. The story was well-written, engaging and fast paced, so why in the end did it fall a little flat for me? I think the issue I had with this novel was the lack of depth given to the characters. There were too many to keep track of, and apart from Harper and Ruby, I felt that we barely scratched the surface of who they really were. For a novel that is focusing on such a small geographical area, details are important, and I think they are missed here. The author could have taken the time to flesh out all the residents to further add to the mystery.

That being said, I was engaged and entertained throughout, and Megan Miranda does a good job of building tension and executing twist and turns to keep you guessing and moving from suspect to suspect. This had the potential to be phenomenal, and given a hundred or so more pages of character development, it could well have been. I will be interested to see how this author develops in her further novels.
