There's something about a small town setting that works perfectly for a suspenseful crime thriller. ⁣

In this one, we're introduced to the idyllic subdivision of Hollow's Edge, where the lives and workplaces of the homeowners intertwine, and everyone knows a little too much of each other's business. When Ruby – a past resident sent to jail after her town mates provided evidence convicting her of murder – returns to Hollow's Edge, deemed innocent and determined to find the real killer, ties begin to sever and trust begins to weaken. Hollow's Edge is not what it once was. ⁣

I love the slow feed of background information that introduces the reader to the murder, the verdict, the characters, the mistrial and each piece of new evidence as it is found. The suspense is crafted brilliantly, and the claustrophobic, invasive nature of the neighbourhood really comes to life through the characters and interactions. The pace picks up in the final quarter of the book, with twist after twist that you don't see coming. Towards the end, I couldn't put it down. ⁣
