This novel is based in England just after the war ends and follows Brigitta’s ( a child refugee from Europe ) her arrival with the Red Cross to her desperate need to reach Summerland Hall while concealing a long-standing secret. Her most precious possession is a grey glove.
This book investigates prejudice against those who are different and are easy targets for too much pity or hatred. The plot has some unexpected twists but the characters needed strengthening.
This is a reasonably well written book but printed on unexpectedly cheap paper with a nondescript cover. I don’t think this or the synopsis does the book any favours to attract readers when vying for attention amongst the hundreds of books in a bookshop.
