I chose this book as a start for the intriguing cover which made me want to know who the person was and to put a description to the face. In addition another reason was that each chapter is a named after a food item. Who doesn't like food?!

It was so nice to read a book from a different perspective of WW2 rather than the typical story of and English family. This book is about a refugee from Austria and their toils and troubles which eventually lead them to the scary place of England.

At times the story was heart wrenching and you could vividly imagine the refugees and their plight.

There was some major plot twists which kept this story animated and kept the reader on their toes. Just when I thought I had figured everything out another plot twist came your way.

My only criticism was that at times the story seemed to feel a bit rushed and needed more detail and description in some chapters.

On the whole a great read with some great historical and emotional aspects.
