Personally, historical fiction is not my favourite genre, however, I loved 'War Horse' by Michael Morpurgo and the 'Once' series by Morris Gleitzman, so I thought I would give this book a go as well, despite the fact that it was clearly a book that was set during the Second World War, and I am honestly so glad that I did.

It is not my favourite book by any means, or as gripping as books of the genres I usually choose to read, but I still found it enjoyable nonetheless. It was a very quick and easy read, with a simplistic writing style that highlights that the protagonist is, in fact, still just a teenager, being forced to deal with the horrors of a war that they have no part or say in. Some of the events in the book were a bit problematic to me and a few characters were highly irritating, but this made sense considering the era the book was set in, and the rest of the book more than made up for it. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised.
