Elizabethan london is an instantly grimy, but interesting setting which i haven't read many books set in to be fair. The words on the cover Heresy, Conspiracy, Murder, what more do you need, i am totally in! The cover also made me think a little of the CJ Sansom Shardlake series, but heading in a more medical angle rather than the law.
The main character seems an interesting one, he's seen more than most men by being a war medic, but he seems to have come out of it all ok. As is usual in these extracts it ends on a cliffhanger of sorts that makes you intrigued what happens next, hope his wife is ok, sounds like she may have lost the child though, which would cement our main character's determination to find out what happened to the dead infant that was fished out of the Thames and appeared on the dissection table at the surgeon's lecture he was attending. No one else believed it was murder, but how else does a corpse found in the Thames have no blood in it and no signs of drowning?
