Ursula is a 30-something marketing exec who’s all but given up on love; she’s had more than her fair share of bad dates and has resolved to take herself out of the dating game. That is until she is given a business card for ‘The Arc’, a secretive matchmaking agency in which clients have to submit to a week long retreat involving all kinds of tests, all on the promise of finding their perfect match. Ursula balks at the hefty price tag, it’s $40,500 and you only get one match, but heck they’re guaranteed to be the one so she decides to give a shot. She is matched with Rafael, and they form an immediate connection, after all The Arc matched them so they must be perfect for one another. Could it be possible that The Arc has delivered on their promises and given them both everything they ever dreamed of? And can the course of true love ever run that smoothly?

I don’t usually gravitate towards romance as a genre but I do like to mood read and as Valentines Day is coming up I thought I’d give this one ago. Thankfully I was very pleasantly surprised and really loved it! I really liked both Ursula and Rafael so I was totally rooting for them throughout. They’re both a bit quirky and they both really love Mallory the cat, so that was heart-warming. Although I knew going into it that they were obviously going to face issues (it wouldn’t be much of a story otherwise) I still found myself shouting at them to figure out their differences, I just wanted them to be together. I don’t want to say too much else as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone but I really enjoyed the ending too and I thought the last chapter rounded it all off perfectly.

The Arc has completely changed my view of romance novels and has inspired me to go out and add a load more to my TBR pile. This was a really enjoyable story that I breezed through, and I was hooked from start to finish. It has a very similar premise and vibe to the ‘Hang the DJ’ episode of Black Mirror, so if you liked that you will love this. The perfect read for Valentine’s Day, I wholly recommend it, five stars from me!
