Suspenseful and thrilling with an imaginative plot, The Art of Death was a great read and quite inventive involving art and crime. I believe this is a debut novel but it was so great that I thought David Fennell must have had a lot of experience in this genre before.

The books follows mainly DI Archer, newly promoted and with a lot to prove, as well as the killer’s point of view and the characters lives.

Starting of with the characters, I really loved DI Archer, DS Quinn and Klara Clarke and hope to learn more about them in future book.
The “antagonists” are also fantastically developed - I say this because when I actually hate a character, that means that the character was well constructed - and I look forward to seeing how they develop and grow in future books.

I loved the setting and how it felt like I was travelling in London alongside the characters. I know the area well and it felt really realistic to me.

Now... the plot! The thrilling, twisty, gruesome but fantastic plot!
It’s chilling, it’s artsy... it’s probably part of someone’s worst nightmares but it makes up for a really fantastic crime book read!
Albeit with a lot of differences, it reminded me of Daniel Cole’s Ragdoll and, as with Cole’s book, I had to read The Art of Death in one sitting.

There were a couple of typos in the version I’ve read but they do not ruin or change my experience and there is a Hospital scene (no spoilers) that I didn’t love simply because I would like to think that it’s not how my colleagues would conduct themselves but again, it really did not impact my overall love for the book!
