A slightly odd opening page or two to set the scene and then a jump straight into a legal battle through the courts on a libel case, presumably just to introduce the main characters and their positions but I found even the set-up to be a pretty interesting read.

From the cover I wasn't expecting to be reading a lawyer/crime based novel, more of a crime/horror (and it may well turn into that) but what I've read was focused more on the lawyers than the crime.

I've read a few crime thriller type novels recently that focus more on the Trials and lawyers and this read like another well researched, well written foray into the style.

Other than the slightly creepy opening it moved at pace through court action and the disappearance of the star witness on the night before the trial

A good first impression. I don't know exactly where it's going or how the opening pages fit in but I want to read more
