This novel takes place during a sweltering, steamy summer when a tiny seaside village undergoes a drastic transformation. Natasha and her mother live on the cliffs in a lovely ancient house. They take in summer lodgers to supplement their income because they are low on cash. The lodger, on the other hand, appears to be different this summer. Natasha doesn't like it when her mother shines when he's around! This is a very slow-burning novel that I thoroughly liked reading. It's extremely irritating that no one wants to believe Natasha or help her; she badly wants her mother to love her and only need her, but she can't seem to cope on her own.
I was curious as to how the narrative would conclude and what would happen, and while not everything is described in detail, the story is well-told. I give it a five-star rating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
