Firstly I wanted to gush about the beauty that is the cover. The spine under the dust jacket is stunning. Okay into the review.
I originally was very excited for this book, however I wasn’t able to get very far with it. I found the writing beautiful as well as lyrical. I especially loved the transition pages. I thought that that was a unique addition and made the writing smooth in between the flashbacks. In my opinion, what let this book down was the story line and the characters. The characters seemed two-dimensional, I found that I wasn’t emotionally invested in what happened to them, which is for me what marks well-developed characters. For me, I wasn’t able to get past the 300 page mark because of this. I also found the storyline repetitive and a little convoluted. In an attempt to maintain the beautiful prose, the author sacrificed pace and plot intrigue. I do want to give this book another go in the future. Despite all of this, I think that it is worth reading this book, hopefully you will find more enjoyment in it than I did.
