Not My Usual

This is not usually the kind of book I read, but I've been trying to widen my book-horizons lately and this seemed like the perfect way to go.

The title and cover give a very great impression about what it is about, but it is so much more than that. I'm not a huge fan of emotional books but I never felt like that was the main plotline for this: even though obviously cancer and living with such a heart-wrenching, life-changing disease is probably the biggest thing any human can ever go through, I still felt like I was reading a nicely told story.

I did find it a little exclusive at times: I have never nor known anyone with cancer really and sometimes I felt like I wasn't allowed to join in, which I get wasn't the intention but at times that's how it felt. It could also at times be a little too sad, which is fair enough, though the writing and narrative style eased this often.

I didn't enjoy the book as a whole, but it was a good way to expand my literary horizons and I think it could be a great book for anyone looking to do the same.
