Brilliant! I really enjoyed this book. The Captive is my first read by Deborah O'Connor and it did not disappoint. This story is completely different to anything I have read before. Set in a future time in London, there are no prisons and instead the criminals are placed in a cell in the victim's (or their families) house!
Hannah's husband John, who was a Met detective, was murdered and his murderer Jem, is now placed in a cell in Hannah's home. She is very on edge at the beginning from having her husbands killer in her house (which you would expect!) but then she begins to find clues which don't add up and there are very good twists along the way. The book is fast paced and kept me gripped throughout, I could not turn the pages fast enough as I neared the end of the book. I felt there were no loose ends to the story, everything was wrapped up at the end.
