It’s rare that someone comes up with an original plot but this author does.
It’s based on the premise that offenders do not go to prison anymore but are caged in the victims homes reliant on them for food and comforts.
Hannah has a cage in her kitchen and is terrified of having the man who murdered her husband living in it. She can understand people not pressing charges anymore as the victims seem to be being punished as much as the perpetrators.
She runs a cake making business from home so has no option but to spend time in the company of the murderer Jem. She wants to know why her husband died but Jem maintains his innocence and slowly little inconsistencies start to emerge that supports his claim.
This is a very satisfying mystery thriller which I enjoyed immensely. It’s well written, excellent plot and good characterisation.
I have no hesitation in recommending this book.
