Moira is sold off by her parents to a much older man, a doctor who then packs her off with him to set sail for Australia.

They arrive there in 1800, a land still very primitive and harsh. Where the aborigines are persecuted as 'savages' whilst the prisons are run in the manner of a concentration camp.

Moira meets prisoner Duncan and is immediately drawn to him. But she is playing a dangerous game in a dangerous new land.

Corbi writes beautifully. She has researched her subject matter thoroughly and mixes real historical figures in her fictitious world.

The descriptions of the atmosphere and surroundings are exquisite. You can feel the heat of the sun, the mosquitoes biting at you and the unbearable smell of the prison camp.

This is a really immersive book. I became invested in Moira & Duncan and wanted everything to turn out ok for them.

Would highly recommend and I will most certainly be reading more stories by Corbi.

I would like to thank Readers First for a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
