I haven't read this genre of book for sometime, so absolutely thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd like to go back & read more of this authors previous works.
It took me a while to get through this book, but loved the way it was cleverly woven together. I did get a little confused at times with the similar sounding names of the characters, but the author kindly has a character chart at the front of this book to refer back to.
I loved how we saw madeline after 14 yrs get out of the mad house & back into society, back to where she was married but lost her husband & home.
She is a demure, clever young woman, who needs to prove her husband was murdered. She gets taken in by a long time friend who still remembers her, who helps her fight for justice, even when it's a time when womens opinions don't really count for much.
She also has an admirer who looks out for her but she thinks is a French enemy. This book goes onto have twists & turns & is brilliantly written. Love the ending too. Thanks x
