This is the sixth book in the cornish saga series and although I haven't read any others in this series you can still enjoy this book as a stand alone. At the beginning of the book you can see a list of the characters and family trees which is really useful as you read the story. Madeleine Pelligrew was the mistress of Pendenning Hall and has been falsely imprisoned for 14 years jn various mad houses. One day a man appears and says he is from her brother and is to take her to France and to freedom but she doesn't know whether to trust him or not. The book centres around her setting out to find out why and by who she was treated so badly and who was behind her imprisonment to seek revenge. You come across a lot of characters which is why the list and family tree is os useful at the front of the book but the book is easy to read and very enjoyable. Would recommend.
