This book really transports you into the world and does an incredible job of gripping you from the first words. Though it was a slow burn and didn't focus on the romance as much it was marvelous. My favourite part was how strong Jude was and you end up falling in love with the character from the beginning.
Jude has never recovered from watching her adoptive Faerie father murder her parents this creates a character that fueled by revenge and anger and her hopeless state that renders her powerless. Black does this to explore nature vs nurture as the prince has been shaped by the cruelties of others as well.
The political aspect is both so creative and compelling and I feared it would be hard to understand but it was well written meaning I had no issues with that aspect of the book.
Overall I would recommend this book by Holly Black and I cannot wait to read the next two books in the series.
