LOVED IT!
I read this book in two days - unputdownable!
I'd heard of Holly Black before, but had never read any of her stuff, simply because it had never occurred to me. But when I won 'The Cruel Prince' in the prize draw, I was eager to give it a go.
And thank goodness I did, because the book got me from the word go. I love the world it is set in - faery has always fascinated me - and the setting was rich and well researched and instantly drew me in. I love the characterisation too, of Jude, the unapologetic mortal who stands up for what she believes is right, yet who has flaws just like real people do. I also love Cardan, who doesn't soften with time or change his personality due to the influence of the protagonist, but remains his usual arrogant self (yet not in a way that means we can't rally behind him).
Yes, I loved this book, and not only am I now on the look out for the next book in the series, but I am interested in reading other books by Holly Black. Highly recommend it!
