I really struggled to put this book down as there was always something exciting happening. 'The Cutting Place' has a really well developed set of characters, most likely because it is one in a series, which I hadn't realised until I had finished reading. The ease with which the book can be read as a stand novel is a real achievement, although obviously now I am hooked and want to delve further into the history of the characters.

I loved the fact that main characters and side characters all had there own issues to deal with, some linked to the case and others not, although I felt there were times when the links between the case and the investigating Officers seemed a little too coincidental.

The main themes of the novel: crime, sexual assault, blackmail, lies, domestic violence, all classics for the crime genre were presented in an exciting, nail-biting story with witty banter and well developed relationships. I love to try and guess who the guilty party is when reading crime fiction, but I found that I didn't need to whilst reading 'The Cutting Place', I preferred to just read and enjoy the ride.

I would definitely recommend 'The Cutting Place' to lovers of crime fiction and will certainly be looking out for other books by Jane Casey.
