I wasn't totally won over by the front cover, the title or the synopsis but I was surprised to find that it was quite entertaining to read. I understand that this is book nine in a series and I haven't read any of the other books. I felt that this still worked as a standalone book, I didn't feel like I missed anything out by not having read other books in the series. It was an entertaining storyline to follow regarding a gentleman's club and a murdered journalist. I found Maeve to be a likeable character and that she had a good relationship with her colleague Josh. The partnership between them feels strong and it's good to see how they support each other - even when they were not on good terms at the time they still supported each other. I feel like there could be more to the relationship between Maeve and Josh and potentially more could happen between them in future books in the series. I wouldn't mind reading the previous books in this series as the characters were well written and the plots would be interesting if similar to this novel.
