This was a relatively easy to read australian crime-fiction novel. The main characters were complicated and so believable which was a positive. However, they were also not completely likeable. Gemma at times behaved very selfishly and I felt sorry for both her child and partner. I also was not a fan of Felix who was also pretty selfish. I felt that both of them ran away from their problems rather than facing them and while this may be a normal strategy for some people it was quite frustrating to read about.

The murder-based plotline was relatively interesting with a lot of twists and turns and it took a while for me to guess who the murderer was which is always a good sign. I'm not a fan of books with too predictable outcomes.

The victim was also a complicated character and the more we found out about her, the more it led to me wondering about abusive relationships and how a teacher could be allowed to continue teaching after she had already been found to be having inappropriate relations with a student in a different school.

It was relatively enjoyable and I wanted to continue reading it but I wouldn't recommend it to others.
