The cover and the name of the book it what caught my eye. Its such a good book that will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. I like that here are leading women characters. The Dark Room is another example of how excellent Sam Blake is at not only bringing a story to life but also getting the reader so captive, the book could be finished in one sitting.
Beginning in Blake’s normal style of two separate storylines had me guessing from the start how the book will come together. Meeting Caroline, a New York based criminal reporter, just as her career hits a major stumbling block who decides to take some much needed time back home in Ireland. She finds herself in Hare’s Landing, a semi-opened hotel in West Cork. As this is happening we meet Rachel, a Dubliner, living in London. In the space of 24 hours, Rachel’s life takes unexpected and unexplained turns which makes staying in London not a safe option. Following some clues, Rachel finds herself arrive at Hare’s Landing where she befriends Caroline. As their investigations soon marge into the same story, it becomes obvious that someone is not happy with the presence of the two new friends and will go to extreme measures to keep a 30 years secret hidden.
Sam Blake deserves credit for yet another gripping story line with some light humor added in to make this story ideal for a cosy winter night read by the fire. I would most definitely recommend this book if you like mystery.
