I was really conflicted between giving this book 2 or 3 stars but I'm being generous and going for three. I'll start by saying that I think the title is very misleading as the 'dark room' is a very minor plot point and it feels as though it's been chosen as the title just because it sounds sort of scary and ominous. It wasn't until I finished the book that I questioned it but it really makes very little sense as a title. The cover is your generic crime novel cover so nothing too exciting there. The writing is below par, clunky and occasionally nonsensical. I found my self skim reading parts that just didn't seem to have any relevance to the plot. So, you may be thinking, does this book have any redeeming features? Well, firstly, I love the relationship between the two main female characters. They don't know each other as such but just seem to click and it feels like a celebration of female friendships in a way. Secondly, the plot is good. Lots of twists and turns and leaves you guessing for quite a long time. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this as I feel that there are a lot of crime novels out there that are more worthy of your time but I did enjoy it in parts.
