"Thanks to Alexander Hamilton, America recovered from the financial panic of 1792, but the young country is still finding it's way."

Paddy Hirsch's The Devil's Half Mile is set seven years after the financial crisis that almost overturned America, and when Justy Flanagan arrives back home in America after studying abroad to become a lawyer in Ireland, he is intent on finding his father's murderer, insisting that he never committed suicide years earlier.

This may well be the book set in the earliest time period that I have ever read, 1799's New York City.

I went into this book thinking that I would not enjoy it, but I was pleasantly surprised, which I am quite happy about as I am not usually a fan of historical fiction.

Even though I did enjoy this book, I am not too sure that I will be reading Hirsch's sequel any time soon, it takes a great deal for me to read a historicla fiction.
