I was excited to read this book, an author I had heard of but not yet read. After a promising start I found myself alternating between small sections where I felt quite engaged, to pages that limped. As I read on I felt the characters really lacking. There isn't much depth to them or the story, they are quite unconvincing and the main pair are quite dreary after a while. I was struggling to finish this book, it did seem in a rush to conclude over the final chapters, where it became pretty obvious what was going to happen.
I enjoyed the reference to currency, we are so used to the Euro I forgot the experience of paying in Francs (for example) at a bar or restaurant. The idea of travelling around Europe in a quirky sports car is evocative but not terribly realistic in my experience!
The cover drew me in but I couldn't in all honesty recommend this book as a captivating read.
