Emma has had a varied and thrilling life, married to a diplomat, hob nobbing and the turning into a spy.
The thing that has blighted the whole of her life was the death of her darling brother Hugh.
Now terminally ill she embarks on a trip accompanied by her grandson Phil, ostensibly to see the old haunts of her youth and those long gone times.
But this isn't the only reason, what she wants to do leads her and Phil into dangerous territory and the path of very determined people.
People who think they should be silenced at all costs...
An amazingly well crafted, taut spy story with a difference, set partly in the past in the latter half of the 30s and also the late 70s.
The tale is suspenseful and I couldn't put it down, I think for the story unfolding the two time periods being meshed together was perfect and it wouldn't have flowed effectively without it.
I have read another thriller before by this author and adored that one too, frankly I don't know which I preferred.
He is fast becoming someone I specifically look out for.
