There’s a lot of hype around this book, and with good reason. I love historical fiction so this was right up my street, add in a bit of feminist agenda and I was hooked!
I did think though that there would be more in depth description about “witches” and that is what initially drew me in. Although there were the typical witch hunting “clues” muddled in I’m not surprised the story didn’t centre around witchcraft, considering these accusations were false and were bestowed upon a woman simply for tending a herb garden & being near someone who died! I would say the story was about witchcraft and more about female friendships in a time of female oppression. Overall, the writing was beautiful and Halls excelled at creating a window into the world of 1612. I would highly recommend!
Another one of Stacey Halls’ historical masterpieces. This is one not to be missed!
