If you enjoy a book with detailed description and a slow paced story line then this will be for you. It follows Ada as she tries to become part of a higher class of society, one that she is always on the edges of. The first part of the book is set on a cultural trip in Italy so there is a lot of in depth description of art work and historic buildings. Some of the language can, at times, feel quite pretentious which can be hard to follow... but this is a reflection of how Ada is also an outsider to this higher class.
The last third of the book is much more gripping and there is a bit of a subtle twist at the end. I felt it hard to get into this book at times, but I think that was just because the main character was made to be so unlikeable with no redeeming qualities. I did however like the way that the author shone light on the darkness of human nature and I feel like we can all relate to some of the selfish and flawed characters in this book.
