A beautiful cover for a beautiful story; a late 1830's story of danger and secrets along the Ohio River.

The story is of May Bledloe, a seamstress travelling with her cousin, Comfort, who is hungry for fame in the performing world.

After the boat they are travelling on sinks, May finds work on board the Floating Theatre and she parts ways with Comfort, for now.

Their paths cross again further down the river with May being caught up in the attempted freeing of slaves. The actual storyline of the emancipation of slaves and the dangers between the South and the North was really interesting to read and not something I had read in many other books.

The suspense towards the end of the journey along the river - would the slave be discovered and would May be in trouble? -
and the lovely relationship building between May and the Captain was captivating.

A wonderful ending for May as the story concludes with her reviving her relationship with the Captain.

I loved the style of writing from this author and the way the book was written made it a pleasure to read.
