This is a short book, at 240 pages, but the author has crammed those pages with a rich erudite text. You really feel like you are actually inhabiting a highbrow world of rare book collectors and sellers, such is the quality of the language used. Bradford Morrow, has not, however, crammed those pages with lots of action - so if it is an action thriller that you are after then this isn’t it. If you are after a slow burning mystery that reveals itself piece by piece, then this is worth a read.
The Forgers begins in the aftermath of the brutal attack on Adam Diehl, a reclusive collector of rare books and manuscripts. Our narrator throughout is Will, who is also a figure in the rare book world - both as a collector and as a convicted literary forger. Will also happens to be in a relationship with Adam’s sister, Meghan. We follow Will as he helps Meghan deal with Adam’s murder and we are also provided with various flashback tales by means of illustrating or justifying Will’s behaviour. It is really difficult to say much more about the story without giving key parts of it away, but I would recommend it to those who enjoy a more gentler, cerebral type of mystery.
