“The babies were wrapped like presents ready to be given” from this first line Stacey Halls has my attention. As you read on you notice that the author has an uncanny knack for marrying straight talking, down to earth characters with beautiful prose. Bess’ thoughts as she waits to see if she will be leaving with or without her baby and the description of Billingsgate are two examples already in the opening chapters.
It was with a deep sigh that I finished reading the first look and I am now impatient to read the rest!
The cover is beautiful, almost tapestry-like and is perfect for admiring between chapters as you absorb what has just occurred in the novel.
