The cover is eye-catching, detailed but not over done. From the start the extract is very moving, we immediately feel for Bess having to leave her new-born daughter at the Foundling Hospital. It is an immensely sad beginning of many mothers desperate to leave their babies to be looked after. I can smell and hear London, and would love to find out what happens to Bess and Clara.
