What a touching and intriguing story this sounds! I can't imagine having to give up a baby. Poor Bess being forced to give up newborn Clara and then discovering when she goes to collect her six years later that she's not even there!
The book sounds really intriguing, especially as I'd never heard of the Foundling Hospital before. I'm keen to read more to find out what has happened to Clara and who the young widow is mentioned in the synopsis.
The writing is descriptive and well constructed and I'm already invested in the characters.
