What a fantastic historical fiction! I'm more of a fantasy-thriller person and yet I absolutely loved it.

This is a historical fiction that tells a tale of motherhood, love and deception. I really enjoyed the alternating characters of Bess and Alexandra. Both women are independent, brave but complex women.

The Foundling Hospital within the story is based on a real place that existed in the 18th century. Her research shows vivid description and detailed characters and how the lifestyles are different for different class of people.

I found this book an easy but enjoyable read. It's cleverly written and grounded in historical facts about the hospital. This is the first book I've ready by Stacey Halls and I'm looking forward to reading her new book, Mrs England.

If you are a fan of historical, mystery novel, you will definitely love this book.
