I am only rating this book three stars because the genre wasn't my cup of tea, while I found the protagonist engaging and as a reader we really feel for her and her experiences as she quests to find her daughter again.

The author has written a heartwarming novel, albeit the ending feels rushed, and made several key points about some of the social divisions.

The chapters are written in two different POVs, Alexandra and Bess. I found myself warming to Bess more than Alexandra, and more interested in her chapters. The author has written a look into different social status' and classes during the period and their positions in society.

I would recommend this book to people who enjoy historical fiction and a more character-based story, this is very well written just not something I would want to read again. This is only my opinion, there is nothing inherently wrong with the novel.
