Love this author and she didn't disappoint with this book. The feel and atmosphere of London in the era was captured and really drew me in to the story. There were plenty of twists and turns and even though I guessed some of it there were still plenty of surprises.

Very different to the Familiars by the same author but still a great story.

Bess is a likeable character with determination and grit. Charlotte despite growing up without her mother and in isolation clearly takes after her.

I enjoyed how the story was written both from Bess/Elizas point of view but also from Mrs Callards.

Enjoyed how each character developed and by the end there wasn't really a villain as such as I still felt for each of them. Really nice easy and pleasant read that just leads you through the story so you don't really need to think too much into.

Great history too about the foundling hospitals of London
