In general I am not a fan of books set during either of the world wars. They are eras that have been written about so much that it is hard to find one that doesn't feel like it is repeating a story that you have already read.

Maybe it is because this genre is not normally my type but I found I really enjoyed this norvel. It was easy to read and the plot progressed at a fast enough pace that you wanted to continue reading it to find out what happened next.

There were a lot of loveable, easy to like chracters which always helps me enjoy a novel more. Although there were times when they behaved frustratingly, the majority of them had good intentions and by the end of the novel it all worked out for the best for the majority of them.

There had been enough research that it felt like the author knew enough about war 'on the home front', bombing and rationing to make it feel like a relatively well-written book.

I definitely enjoyed it, more than I thought I would. Good escapism.
