This novel has the enjoyable dual timelines that elicit intrigue and encourages the reader to both constantly second guess, and try to piece things together as the two timelines grow closer together. I love the name and the book cover, which is mysterious and alluring as i love insight into the female psyche and the complexity of all female relationships.
Ambrosia has the inner thoughts of many girls of the age of 18. Identity crisis, the need to be liked by other females and be seen as attractive to men, even if she doesn’t like them back. The constant need to fit in often makes us do things we later regret.
The writing style is easy to follow and fast paced. It’s the kind of book that you would plow through on a sun lounger during your holiday. So far, there hasn’t been an indication of the deep complexity of female friendships. it currently is somewhat cliche, but i would assume that this darker element comes in more as it is revealed what Ambrosia ‘did’ to Flora (or whoever). It’s definitely a promising start, and i would definitely be intrigued to see how it unfolds - hoping for a dark twist beyond what is expected!
