I must say I wasn't 100% convinced about this book and after the first few chapters I was still unsure. It felt a bit clumsy and I was worried that it would drag on unnecessarily. Also, I spotted a couple of typos which always annoy me because they make you notice that you're reading! However once it got some momentum going, it developed into a fantastic book. I couldn't decide whether I sympathised with the main character, Amb, or not. Every chapter would change my mind. I was kept constantly guessing and just when I was sure I'd sussed it out the whole thing got flipped on its head. All the characters were completely convincing and the relationship dynamics were so nuanced that I didn't always notice what was happening until it was pointed out. And the ending, what can I say? Earth-shattering? Mind-blowing? Foundation-shaking? How many dramatic compound adjectives would you like?! I would whole-heartedly(!) recommend this book to anyone looking for a gripping read that you just don't want to put down.
