'You do not leave a child alone to face the dark' As Korczak led thousands of children to such terrible darkness, his bravery and loyalty to them shines through. Many a time he could have saved himself but he never wavered. A truly incredible man.
Despite the difficult topic, this is a surprisingly easy read. There's action and romance and hope. This book is incredibly moving. Everytime I read a book about the Holocaust, I am reminded afresh as if it were the first time I'd heard the horrors. This book does that very well. I am incredibly impressed by how the author has balanced storytelling with factual information. It never feels like a lesson - it flows and is easily followed. We are always shown rather than told. I only wish I'd got round to reading it sooner!
