The Good Luck Girls | Charlotte Nicole Davis
.
Synopsis:
Sold as children and branded with cursed markings. Trapped in a life they would never have chosen.
.
When Aster's sister, Clementine accidentally kills a man, the girls risk a harrowing journey to find freedom, justice and revenge, in a country that wants them to have none of those things.
.
Pursued by powerful forces, both living and dead, their only hope lies in a story passed from one girl to another, a story that only the most desperate would ever believe.
.
I'd originally seen a first look at this book through @readersfirst. I was devastated when I didn't win because based on the first chapter, this was right up my street!
.
Luckily, the lovely @booklovelife came to the rescue and sent me her copy!
.
This book wasn't what I thought it was going to be. I didn't expect it to fall into the 'fantasy genre' which it absolutely does and not something I'd ever be likely to pick.
.
But past the fantasy, I got a tale of freedom and justice. Love and growing up. I started on an adventure with five girls and was with them every step of the way.
.
Written by @cndwrites, in the inside flap I HAVE to share this because it's beautiful:
.
"I didn't want to tell a story about racism, necessarily - there's plenty of that on the news - but a story about a black girl and her sister finding freedoms?...That sounded like exactly what the doctor ordered."
.
And it really is, just the tonic. This book was pure escapism. I LOVED this story.
.
It's ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 / 5 from me ❤️🖤
