It took a while for me to get into this book. The plot is divided into Then and Now, so flips between time for the main character. This is made clear throughout which helps with staying focused. This is my first read from the author, I think I would read the others expecting similar style of writing.
I would say the plot is quite methodical until near the end, when it suddenly picks up pace, with a lot of twists. If this is your kind of narrative it's for you.
The characters are not too deep, but we get a clear idea of their home environments and personality. I think most people could identify with the two girls in their younger years in some way, the angst of teenage years and life in their home town.
