I am not usually one to go for this kind of book, however I was intrigued by the first impression given initially. Historical fiction usually angers me and makes me switch off from a book almost immediately. I am glad I got the opportunity as the world is so well written and the details and descriptions that are given in the text are truly beautiful and highly visual at times.
Since reading the book, I have found out that this is not a standalone book and is in fact the fourth book in a series. I think that this does not affect the text and is still totally readable on its own without having to have read the other books in the series. I'm not sure I would read the other books in the series following this, however I did enjoy this book on its own.
That being said, I would still recommend this book. Even more so if you are already into historical fiction and fantasy.
