The hints being left that there isn't quite something right in the house, are so subtle, to begin with, which leave you questioning what will happen. Nonetheless, the uneasy feeling follows you through the book. A lot of the book is more like a week in the life of a small village, nothing too remarkable. Then the story really ups its game, and everything happens, so suddenly, that I was left wondering how we got where we were. This story is about two complex characters which are Nell and Maude are two very different people who find one another by chance, forming a beautiful relationship built on vulnerability, trust, respect and acceptance. Both of them have their own personal battles and the way these sensitive topics were written was exceptional. I truly felt their pain and trauma as though it were my own. This magnificent story pulls on the heartstrings of even the toughest of souls. This is an excellent structured story very much a poignant self-reflective horror book. However I must say, the cover was what drew me in the most the silhouette, the shoe and the key all leading up to the evidence that will help carry this story along I would love to read more books like this and indulge in this marvellous masterpiece that Amanda Mason created.
