This was a really atmospheric modern ghost story, and I'm grateful to Reader's First for sending me an advanced copy to read and review.
Nell returns to her childhood village for a family party with her husband Chris and stepdaughter Maude, renting a cottage which has been empty for a while. From the beginning, small things in the cottage make Nell feel uneasy, and a neighbor who claims to remember her from school seems overly keen to befriend her. Maude however is drawn into the atmosphere of the house which affects their relationship.
I haven't read many modern ghost stories, and this one did draw me in to a point..although there was something about the main characters relationship that I didn't fully love. Overall however, I did enjoy this book and would happily read more by this author.
I think if you enjoy books about family relationships, you would also enjoy this.
