Just finished this and while I enjoyed it there was a niggle about it that I can't put my finger on. It was beautifully written and very atmospheric but I found the main characters a little unlikeable which is never good when you need to be rooting for them.
Nell and her husband and step daughter seemed like a typical family but after a while the disappearance of Chris back to work seemed a little rushed and was an annoyance in the story. Him leaving make the others a little more angry and ultimately annoying. The story of their relationships I felt was never really uncovered and while there were things implied they were ultimately never resolved in the story.
The other ladies met on holiday had their own secrets and this was tied in to the story at Elder House. The premise of the story seemed good but I felt there was no resolution or answers and the end came abrubtly and left many unanswered questions.
