Slow burn with only a hint of spookiness

The front cover really stands out and it all ties in well together with the book. I was looking forward to reading this book as the prologue was super eerie. It started off so well, I like the way the author describes the old house, she makes it sound like it has a mind of it's own the way she hints and touches on things. I.e. "one of the windows shuddered, rattling in its frame as a breeze caught it; the room seemed to shift, to expand and settle again."

However, I felt that half way through the book it became a slow burn and not much was happening. I struggled to read it and so it took longer than usual for me to read a book. I expected it to be scarier but I found the ending was disappointing and an anti-climax. I was not invested in any of the characters, including the main two (Nell and Maude).

Unfortunately this book wasn't for me but that is only my opinion. I think it would be a good book for those who appreciate a slow burn with a little spookiness.
