The story starts with Kate, her husband Sean and her two children, Lucy and Daniel joining three of her old university friends and their families at a villa in France. Kate is a little anxious as Sean has been a bit distant and fears something might be going on. This anxiety increases when she finds a text message from a pseudo account, which she interprets as him having an affair. Meanwhile we find out a little more about her friends. Rowan and Russ, with their precocious 5 year old, Jennifer and Alastair and their boys. As their week plays out, we discover that the teenagers have secrets to hide and be ashamed of. Kate's view of who the other woman is veers from person to person as she discovers more things.
