Her background is affluent and she is well educated and literate unusual of a girl in her time. She has language skills and theatrical dreams. She married young after her fathers death and the guy is dull and controlling. He is so against her using her education and wants her to be more typical of a woman at that Time. Cook, clean and look after the children. It’s like feminism and the book follows her fight for independent. A really good read for all and definitely gets the brain thinking about how lucky we are now with the opportunities we have but the progress we still need to make
